Peter N. Lee
In 1956, Peter N. Lee, a young entrepreneur with a vision of an industrialized nation, founded MESCO with his wife, Mercy, in a small apartment in Manila. By day it held offices and machine displays; at night it was their home. Six months in, he traveled to Germany to find manufacturing technology to bring home, and returned as the exclusive distributor of Schuler presses in the Philippines.
Peter knew how to operate every machine on the shop floor, but his true passion was teaching. He often stayed after hours to show staff techniques he had learned himself, and MESCO began regularly sending its technical and sales people abroad for training. Employees still know his favorite saying: “Learning is continuous. The day you stop learning is the day you die.”
Peter passed away on August 30, 2004, and suppliers from around the world came to the Philippines to pay their respects. His son Allen succeeded him as president. The Mazak QuickTurn 10 lathe Peter brought in during the 1980s stands in the lobby of the MESCO building as a tribute to him. Read our full story.
